How buying works
Short answers to what matters before you buy.
What "Verified seller" means
Scale checked this business before it could sell: business name, email and phone, business address, a payout bank account and a tax ID (both checked by Stripe), and the owner confirmed the details are true within the last year. It is not a check of licenses, insurance or the quality of the work.
Sellers with $20,000 or more a year in sales also show their full name, address, phone and email, as the INFORM Consumers Act requires.
Paying
You pay the business directly through Stripe. Scale never holds your money and never sees your card number. There are no buyer fees: the total you see before you pay is what you pay.
Refunds and returns
Each business sets its own policy, shown on the listing and at checkout. Contact the business first. Your card issuer can help with a charge that is wrong or that you did not make.
Reviews
Only buyers with a paid order can review, once per order, after the job is done. Every review is shown, newest first, good or bad. Businesses can not edit, hide or remove reviews, and Scale never pays or rewards anyone for one. Reviewers must say if they are connected to the business. We remove a review only if it breaks the law or the Market terms, and we apply that the same way to good and bad reviews. These rules follow the FTC rule on consumer reviews (16 CFR part 465).
How listings are ordered
By rating, then by number of reviews, and for searches by how well a listing matches your words. Paying Scale never changes the order.
Report suspicious activity
Use the link on any listing, or call Phone line coming soon (placeholder) or email report@scalembs.com. A person reviews every report.
Your privacy
No ad trackers and no location tracking. Your cart and the ZIP you type stay on your device. If you sign in, one cookie keeps you signed in. A business gets your name, email and address only for the order you place with it.
Questions
Who can sell on Scale Market?
Only businesses that use Scale Suite and passed Scale seller verification. Scale checks the business name, email and phone, business address, a payout bank account and a tax ID (both checked by Stripe), and the owner confirms the details every year.
Are there buyer fees?
No. You pay the listed price. When a business charges shipping, delivery or sales tax, you see it before you pay. Scale charges the business, not you.
Who do I pay?
You pay the business directly through Stripe, a payment company. Scale never holds your money and never sees your card number.
How do refunds work?
Each business sets its own refund and returns policy, and it is shown on the listing and at checkout before you pay. Contact the business first. If a charge is wrong or unauthorized, your card issuer can help.
Can I trust the reviews?
Only buyers with a paid order can leave a review, once per order. Every review is shown, good or bad, and businesses can not edit or remove them. Scale never pays for reviews.
Do I need an account?
No. You can browse and check out as a guest. An account keeps your orders, saved items and addresses. You sign in with a passkey, so there is no password.
How do I report a problem?
Every listing has Report suspicious activity. A person at Scale reviews every report, and a listing with several open reports is paused while we look.
